2 min read February 2023 — Swedish cybersecurity firm Truesec opened its headquarters in Jacksonville yesterday.

As first reported by the Jacksonville Business Journal, the move came two years after Truesec Global appointed Tomas Sjöström CEO of its North American subsidiary in 2021, after 15 years in senior management roles at a variety of different companies, including Verifone, RapidiOnline, and PostNord Group. Truesec is a global cybersecurity firm that offers a full range of cybersecurity options, from consultations, prevention and detection to breaches, and management of IT systems, and includes clients from the financial services sector, defense contractors, healthcare organizations, and media companies.

Jacksonville has been an increasingly popular destination for headquarters and regional offices for companies in a number of technology related fields, drawn in by the ease of its quality of life and affordability in the face of competing – and costly, Florida markets further south, such as Tampa or Miami.

Daniel Davis, president and CEO of the JAX Chamber, told Invest:, “Over the next five years, we expect to see continued growth in Northeast Florida. Jacksonville is a hotbed for fintech and biohealth, so we are seeing people move here from  across the country. Many folks are finding Florida and Jacksonville to be the place that they want to live and either start their business or bring their business.”

For Sjöström and his peers, having now settled into their new office, the focus will be on growing the company in both clients and headcount, something Truesec has already seen success in with Sjöström having grown the company’s clients to about 80, with several large tech firms in the mix. Bulking up the firm’s local workforce will follow – while Truesec has a global workforce of over 270 employees, only six are based in Jacksonville.

The office at 1300 Riverplace Boulevard will serve as the center of operations for locally-based employees, with Sjöström telling the Business Journal, “The location for this office was very important to me.” He added, “The Southbank has a very European feel. The view is amazing and I like the ability to walk to lunch or go places without the need for a car with my employees or clients. I’m used to working in Stockholm, we would walk everywhere. So that accessibility weighed heavily on my decision to be on the Southbank.”

Southbank itself has seen a variety of new and redevelopment projects in the works, including a number of restaurants, apartments, and the 32-acre RiversEdge megaproject, as well as other mixed use development that continue to make it a more dense, walkable area when compared to the wider Jacksonville-Duval County region, which spreads out over hundreds of square miles and is the largest city in Florida by area, and fifth in the country.
