Invest: Philadelphia celebrates fourth edition with in-person launch

2 min read  September 2022— Philadelphia is poised for success in a post-pandemic landscape. The near-term horizon and the region’s strategies to ensure success will be the focal point of the official Invest: Philadelphia 2022 Launch Conference on Wednesday, October 12, hosted by media platform Capital Analytics.

After two years of virtual events, Capital Analytics is finally back to in-person hosting. The launch event will be held in person on October 12 at Philadelphia Marriott Downtown in Center City, starting with an hour-long networking session over breakfast at 7:30 a.m., to be followed by Anne Nadol, commerce director for City of Philadelphia, who will deliver the opening keynote address.

“On a global level, Philadelphia holds not only an incredible amount of historical significance but also economic significance,” said Capital Analytics President and CEO Abby Melone, who will present the conference’s opening words. “We are excited to be releasing our fourth edition of Invest: Philadelphia, providing in-depth, digestible business intelligence for a market in which vitality and excitement are common themes among local leaders.”

Invest: Philadelphia 2022 provides a comprehensive view of the region’s economic potential and the challenges accompanying that potential from the perspective of approximately 200 local leaders and elected officials.

This year’s report focuses on the region’s key industries, including education, healthcare and life sciences, banking and finance, real estate and construction, while considering the impact of and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the pandemic, Philadelphia has enjoyed continued economic expansion and is emerging even stronger in a post-COVID-19 landscape. 

The first panel of the conference, “Risks and Rewards: Sound decision-making in an uncertain and volatile economy,” will discuss how investors and businesses should approach decisions in today’s dynamic market. A representative of Marcum LLP will present the panel. Moderated by Binney Wietlisbach, president of The Haverford Trust Company, panelists will include: Bradley Fouss, senior vice president and market president for Greater Philadelphia at OceanFirst Bank N.A.; Ryan Hicke, CEO of SEI; and Jason Juliano, director at Eisner Advisory Group LLC.

The second panel, “Balancing Act: Aligning education with economic development and student demands,” will explore the steps higher education institutions will take and have been taking during one of the most transformative time periods for the industry. The panel will be presented by Michael Young, president and CEO of Temple University Health System (TUHS). Moderated by David Jacobson, principal at CliftonLarsonAllen LLP (CLA), panelists will include: Marilyn Wells, chancellor of Penn State – Brandywine; Michael Mittelman, president of Salus University; Chris Domes, president of Neumann University; and Brenda Allen, president of Lincoln University.

The third panel, “Energy Crunch: The growing demand for energy amid global instability and how it’s fueling green innovation,” will take a deep dive into the green transition and rising demand for energy as green technologies, such as electric vehicles, grow in popularity, in addition to global dynamics that are significantly impacting the energy market. Moderated by Abby Melone, CEO of Capital Analytics, panelists will include: Larry DePompei, senior director of commercial and green initiatives at WGL Energy; Ken Gardner, partner – strategy and transactions at Ernst & Young (EY); Jackie Bliss, chief customer officer at Vicinity Energy; and Leonard Gardner, vice president of the east region for NRG Home.
