2 min read January 2022— In spite of the unprecedented challenges introduced by the pandemic, business and community leaders speaking at the launch conference for the inaugural edition of Invest: Nashville agreed that the city’s diverse and resilient economy is on a path of growth in 2022.
“It is abundantly clear that we are poised for even greater things in the coming year,” said Middle Tennessee State University President Sidney McPhee.
With three panel discussions on healthcare, finance and development, the Invest: Nashville 2022 Launch Conference, held for the first time on Thursday, Jan. 13, via Zoom Webinar, showcased the future of Nashville’s economy from the perspective of local leaders and industry experts, who also gave their views on what this means for the future of the region.
Invest: Nashville is an annual business intelligence report launched in 2022, and compiled by media platform Capital Analytics as part of its suite of yearly reports focusing on local and regional economies. “As a national epicenter of healthcare, education and manufacturing, Nashville is well positioned to become a reference for growth in 2022,” said Capital Analytics CEO Abby Melone during the event.
Director of Economic and Community Development of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County Courtney Pogue provided the opening keynote address, highlighting the importance of designing public policies that echo popular demands. “Over the next few months, Nashville will develop a strategic plan in policy and economic development. … We will craft a plan that reflects the needs and wants of citizens in Nashville and Davidson County,” said Pogue.
Known for having a strategic geographical location, an educated and growing labor force, as well as a diverse portfolio of industries, Nashville is positioning itself as a focal point for business activity in the United States.
The first panel of the conference, “Healthcare Hub: How Nashville’s healthcare ecosystem is evolving amid accelerated industry change,” explored the dynamics of today’s healthcare landscape and what they mean for Nashville. Moderated by President and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas and Senior Vice President and Ministry Market Executive of Ascension Tennessee Tim Adams, the panelists included President of the Nashville Health Care Council Hayley Hovious, Executive Committee Member at Butler Snow LLP George Crawford III and CEO of the The Surgical Clinic Chris Stirling.
The second panel, “Future of Finance: What the future of the financial landscape looks like for 2022 and beyond,” looked at what the future holds for today’s unprecedented financial landscape. Moderated by Executive Vice President and Chief Relationship Officer of Studio Bank Harry Allen, the panelists included President of the Tennessee Region for Truist Johnny Moore, Jr, Senior Vice President, Managing Director and Head of Nashville Private Wealth at Bernstein Private Wealth Management Adam Sansiveri and Senior Vice President, Director of Associate and Client Experience for Pinnacle Financial Partners Sarae Janes Lewis.
Rounding out the discussion, “Smart Development: The integral role thoughtful development plays in Nashville’s current and future success,” touched on Nashville’s maturing economy and the steps necessary to ensure responsible growth. Moderated by Founder of Village Real Estate and CEO of Core Development and CEO of The CityLiving Group Mark Deutschmann, the panelists included CEO of Colliers International Nashville Janet Miller, Nashville Business Unit Leader for DPR Construction John Vardaman and President and CEO of The Housing Fund Marshall Crawford.
